-Acronym, Terms & Definition-
IMPORTANT: All words, acronyms and abbreviations on this page are for Out of Character use only! Characters should never use them (with the exception of the very last one).
Addy: abbreviation for address; used in phrases like ‘web addy’ and ‘email addy’
Administrator: person or people that run (and often pay for) a web site
Avatar: an optional addition used in forum boards, which is a small graphic, or a picture used to depict or represent that particular player or character
BBL: acronym for 'be back later'
BBS: acronym for 'be back soon'
Board: a message board or a forum
Bio: usually a character profile
BRB: acronym for ‘be right back’
~bumps~: expression used to indicate a reminder, or to place a particular discussion/thread to the top of the message board
Char: abbreviation for character
Character: a fictional person created by a typist who interacts in any given storyline
Cup: when a player goes into 'away' in a chat room and may not be paying attention to the events in the room at that time
DC: acronym for 'detached character'- a character that is not considered ‘permanent’, created only to be temporarily used in a specific setting
Fast Descriptive: a freeform fighting style in which consists of being able to both type quickly, as well as produce descriptive lines. (not used in
TWORP)
FD: acronym for 'Fast Descriptive'
Freeform: online role-playing style that allows freedom of the creative mind, with no boundaries or limitations, but in
TWORP and some other role-playing organizations, is based on Serenesta's 'Foundation of logic'
Gamemaster: a player who has the ability to manipulate and control events in any given storyline. Gamemasters have more power than a 'narrator'
GM: acronym for 'Gamemaster'
IC: acronym for ‘in character’
IM: acronym for 'instant messenger'
In Character: describes when a character is directly interacting in a storyline
LOL: acronym for ‘laugh out loud’
Moder: A character that has been fairly killed in a storyline, but seems to keep coming back, or decides not to acknowledge that their character was killed at all. A character that has ‘god-like’ abilities, preventing him from ever being killed, or even harmed in any way. A person who does not follow the proper guidelines of online role-play that can cause an act of moding in various different forms.
Moderator: person or people who moderate posts made in a forum
Moding: the act of a moder
Moofie, a/Moofed: what a player often says when they have lost an internet connection and have 'fallen out' of a chat room or IM conversation.
Narrator: A typist who intervenes in storylines to manipulate setting environment, event and circumstance
NPC: acronym for a 'non-player character' - usually existing for some specific reason; if denoted "free to use," can be acted out by any other player (known as DC’s in ‘The
World of Role Play’)
OOC: acronym for 'out of character'
Out of Character: describes when a player is directly interacting as himself rather than his character; usually denoted by double parenthesis ( ), or brackets { }
Player: the person who acts out a character in which he created
PM: acronym for 'private message' commonly used in forums
Post: to reply to a discussion, or to start a discussion – a discussion/thread
RP: acronym for ‘role-play’
RPG: acronym for ‘Role-Playing Game’, refers to the game in which players interact with each other through fictional characters and storytelling
Screen name: a non-character name that a player uses in forum/message boards and chat rooms.
Sig: abbreviation for ‘signature’
Siggy: abbreviation for ‘signature’
Signature: an optional addition to the gaming experience; a word-based image on which the name and title of a character is placed and used occasionally to allow other players needed knowledge of that character
SL: acronym for 'storyline'
Speed: a freeform fighting style in which consists of extremely fast and short, non-descriptive lines. (not used in
TWORP)
ST: acronym for 'storyteller'
Storyline: an ongoing fictional story played out by characters
Storyteller: another form of 'Gamemaster'
TB: acronym for 'Turnbase'
Tag: some role-play clans and empires have their members wear 'tags' on their character name, which is usually a series of letters or symbols, to represent the clan or empire the character is a part of
TWORP: acronym for 'The World of Role Play'
Turnbase: a freeform fighting style in which consists of long, extremely descriptive lines. (not used in
TWORP)
Typist: the person acting out or typing for a particular character
WTF: acronym for ‘what the fuck??’
….: a series of periods after any given sentence often means that the typist is not finished with what he has to say and more text will follow
