-Moding-

It is a nasty word and definitely not something you as a role-player want to gain as a reputation. With many freeform RPGers, once you are marked as a ‘moder’, you likely will have a difficult time getting rid of it, and no one wants to role-play with a moder. Moding is when a player refuses to:

1) accept valid character death
2) accept valid character wounds and other misfortunes
3) when a player knowingly mixes character and player knowledge and emotions that create invalid circumstances and events in storylines
4) when you choose to play a ‘god-mode’ character and play it at its full potential

These should be avoided at all times. If your character legally dies within a storyline, be honorable, accept it, and start on a new character. There is no point in going on and on about how unfair it was, or how your character “can’t die that way”. Suck it up and take it like a mature adult. If someone ticks you off out-of-character, do not take it out on his or her character in role-play. If a character inflicts a wound on your character that is supposed to leave him practically immobile, do not continue to role-play as if it never happened. Play it out accordingly and be glad he did not kill your character off. A ‘god-mode’ character is one that has all sorts of powerful abilities that make all other characters in the game inferior to yours. While it is not forbidden to play such a character, it is considered moding when you choose to play it avidly and without putting any stipulations on your play to make it fair and logical. No one expects all characters to be equally strong and equally intelligent, but it is unfair to use such a powerful character in a power-hungry manner.
