Ivana’s life prior to her embrace into the vampyric ways is a mystery to her, as she cannot remember a day before her first evening as a vampire. What she can remember is a face, brown eyes and brown hair, a beautiful face looking down upon her with red tear stained eyes as she clutched something cold close to her own chest. Then that face, that face took her and everything faded into a swirling darkness. The next thing she recalled was waking up to excruciating pain, seeing the woman kneeling before a man with fire in his eyes. Yet somehow Ivana survived.
What Ivana came to understand was the woman had embraced her, given her this dark life… Though Ivana has yet to understand what that means. And the woman, Guiliana, calls her “Mother”, but she doesn’t know why.
The Vampiress cannot recall that Guiliana was her daughter before her death, or that her own family had been killed by the marauding vampires. Ivana cannot even recall the name of her husband, nor her eldest son, whom still lives. Ivana had been turned by a vampire who was too young, at a time when Ivana herself had been close to death for far too long.
As a result, Ivana did not inherit the typical gifts one inherited when embraced. She does not have the supernatural speed or strength of a vampire, nor does she have the mental cunning vampires typically have. In fact, due to her condition when she was embraced, Ivana has the speed and strength of an elderly human, and often exhibits the mental capacity of an elderly human as well. She cannot remember anything from her life, and she does not have the natural bloodthirst which comes to most vampires. Much of the time, Guiliana must aid Ivana in feeding.
If not, it is feared by Guiliana that her Mother would go without feeding to the point of her own demise.
