-Malefice-

When the mortal lines of the Vitiosus and Malefice came together once again, the line of the Malefice was cursed with a terrible affliction. A previously dormant genetic mutation was awoken, which caused the blood to attack itself to the point of death. The only way that this affliction was able to be overcome by Animosity and Kaliko Malefice was to take their children to the Temple of Hades, and to pray to the God that he would save them. Miraculously, the God heard them, and somehow the blood was subdued, though Kaliko, nor Animosity ever knew how.

The truth of the matter was this, the God Hades implanted a demon within each of the children that was brought before him. One that would not only subdue the rampant blood, but also give Hades a link to the family that one could never sever. It was later that this God attacked the family, the cause of the massacre that left only the youngest children alive. To this day, any child born naturally to the Malefice Bloodline is in need of this demon, or the child will die.

Mainesthai

Occasionally, there are instances of a Malefice who has grown to adult-hood and it comes to pass that the demon which has subdued the blood is removed. If the individual is strong enough, then, and only then may that individual turn into what is known as a Mainesthai. This has only been known to have occurred twice, once with Amon Malefice, and once with her daughter Dispair Malefice. Each time, the resulting creature was completely different from the other.

Without the demon to control the blood, the blood will slowly eat away at itself, killing off all the normal blood that resides within the individual. If the person is strong, he or she will turn into a Mainesthai, though what a Mainesthai entails is unique to each individual. Mortals or weak beings would not be able to endure the change, and it is usually only a Malefice with tainted blood that is able to survive the change.

Amon Malefice, having been turned into a vampire before her change, had vampyric blood within her. This resulted in the mutation of the Malefice blood, resulting in a Mainesthai very similar to what would be a blood demon, yet much more powerful.

Dispair Malefice was raised within the Elysian Fields, which resulted in a mutation of her blood from being within the Fields for so long. So when Dispair’s demon made the conscious decision to no longer subdue the blood, Dispair’s Mainesthai form was turned into that of and ancient Goddess by the name of Mnemosyne, mother to the muses.
