History

(Told through the eyes of his sire)

It was shortly after her tragic separation with her sire and family that she had found a handsome young man in Rome. Long dark hair, dark eyes, and a serious disposition. She was tragically attracted to this man, finding him delightfully tempting. But not in the sexual sense. His seriousness made him a fun toy. Especially because he was so... attached to his precious family. Well Desteria needed a good laugh, something to raise her spirits in light of her father's demise. And this was exactly what she did. She took up residence in an old abandoned temple that was close to this man's home, studying him, stalking him in the dead of the night. Often times she would sneak into his home after they were well asleep, watching over him as he rested peacefully.

She found that name was Sabazios Ruere, the son of a senator. His mother had been deathly ill for a long time, hanging on by just a thread. He had two sisters, both younger, very protective of them. All of the Ruere children grew up well educated, and both of his younger sisters were already betrothed to the sons of other prominent senators. The Ruere family was on the rise, and they couldn't of been happier. Sabazios grew even more happy when he met a woman one night. She said that she was on her way back from the Temple of Venus, having left a sacrifice of wild flowers and spices for the goddess. Sabazios thought she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, striking blue eyes, wavy dark hair. He introduced himself to the woman, and she replied that her name was Desteria. Sabazios smiled to the woman, inviting her to come for a late dinner at his home. Desteria smiled sweetly to him, shaking her head, refusing gently. She had to go tend to her sick father she said, and it was left at that. She turned from him and walked into the night, a wicked grin on her face.

Sabazios had failed to even notice that Desteria hadn't been coming from the Temple. In fact... she was coming from the complete opposite direction of the Temple, coming from the direction of his home. But it didn't matter much to him. He turned and continued on his way home, only to see his youngest sister rushing out to meet him. She was absolutely histerical, crying about how their mother had just been screaming her head off. They had all rushed to the room their mother was in, only to find her bloodied and dead, with two tiny puncture marks on her neck.

Desteria laid there in the silence of the catacombs, the steady heartbeat behind her pounding into her ear like a drum. Her heartbeat slowed to match the heartbeat of the poor soul trapped up in the wall, her breathing slowing as well. To any normal passerby they would of considered her dead. Which she was in actuality. Her mind wandered from those memories... a pained look crossing her face. There was an empty spot in her... a spot that had been filled before. Before she had ventured to find the secrets of her mortal blood. That spot had once been filled with a little part of Memnoch soul, and when she had it removed, she had lost that control over the blood that Memnoch had given her. She had let him go then, just as she felt she had to now. Just let it all go... He no longer needed her. A tear rolled down her cheek as she laid there, the pulling of a deep vampyric sleep coming over her. The memories were all flooding back as she laid there, slipping away, yet she remained focused on that empty spot inside her. Silently she wished... deep within her own soul she wished... she wished that she hadn't let him go. She wished that that spot deep within her wasn't empty as it is now. She wished that she had that connection that had always made her feel safe and secure. She just wished that she had it all back... yet she knew that she would never have it all back.

Sabazios's father, previously unmentioned, was devasted at his wifes murder. He had not been home when the presumed attack happened. When he had returned he had found his son cleaning up the bloody room, his sisters no where in sight. He had flowers for his sickly wife, which he planned on leaving on the table next to her bed. But the sight he found was one he was not prepared to handle. As he rounded the corner to his wife's room, his heart dropped. There was blood all over the sheets yet, his wife's face frozen in fear, his only son there scraping up the dried blood furiously. Sabazios's face was contorted in the most odd look, and he hadn't even noticed his father.

"Sabazios?!?! What are you doing?!?"

The flowers dropped to the floor, landing in a puddle of blood as he rushed to his wife. Sabazios jumped to his feet, looking to his father with a desperate face.

"Father... Mother was attacked! I found her like this..."

"You... You killed her!!! YOU KILLED MY WIFE YOU LITTLE RUNT!!! GET OUT OF HERE!! GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!!"

Sabazios dropped the sponge he was using to clean up the blood, backing out the door. He didn't know what he was going to do. He didn't know what he could do for his father. He had not killed his mother. Why would his father think he did? He ran out of the house, not even looking back, not knowing where he was going.

Sabazios wandered his way into a tavern, filled with sweaty drunken bodies. Finding his way to a table in a dark corner he sat down, ordering himself an ale. He sat there, just thinking, trying to figure out what he was going to do. He didn't think he could go back. His father would only have him arrested for murder. He knew it. His father was an irrational man when he was emotional.

"Find out who did it..."

He looked up quickly at the voice, the outline of a figure standing before him. The figure was just a sihlouette, light shiny about it from behind. Sabazios squinted, staring up at the figure. The voice was familiar, but he couldn't place it just yet.

"What? Who are you...?"

The figure sat down in a chair across from him, her ice blue eyes glowing. Sabazios seemed to breath a sigh of relief upon seeing her. He actually thought the he wouldn't see Desteria again. That she was just a one time thing. He relaxed back in his chair, looking to the woman as he took another sip of his ale.

"Desteria... I'm sorry I didn't recognize your voice. Though I should have. I apologize... I'm not myself right now."

"Yes... I know. Your mother was killed."

"How do you know that? It just..."

"Word spreads quickly around here Sabazios. Now as I was saying... find her killer and clear your name. Both you and I know you didn't kill your mother. You were with me at the time... right?"

Sabazios stared at Desteria wide-eyed. How did she know all this? He didn't even ever remember him actually giving her his name. But then his mind wasn't exactly the most sound of minds right now. He shook his head, looking to the table.

"Wait... hold on. This is all to quick. How do you know my name? And how do you know that my father blamed me?"

"As I said before... word spreads quickly. Now if I were you... I would start with the ones whom came to you saying your mother was attacked."

He just stared at the woman, his eyes wide. He didn't know if it was just his imagination or not. The woman's hair seemed to flow, as if there were a breeze in the tavern, yet there was none. Her eyes seemed to peer deep in his soul, as if she were a demon. And her skin had an irridescent glow in the dim light.

"Who are you? You know I didn't kill her right? I'm innocent. I wouldn't harm my mother for the world."

"I know that Sabazios... I know your innocent. But I think that you should go interrogate those meddlesome sisters of yours. Considering they were the ones that found the body."

She placed a hand over his, Sabazios almost jerking back at her touch. It was so cold, yet so soothing. It was as if a warmth shot through her cold skin right into his, traveling right to his heart. His gaze was locked to Desteria's, his voice shakey.

"My sisters? But they.."

"Are guilty until proven innocent. Sabazios... you are the one who is accused here. And we both know that you did not kill your mother. You have to find who it was that did kill her. And you must start with your sisters. Right?"

"I... I...But..."

"If you want your name cleared... you will do as I instruct. Get your sisters, and take them down to the old temple of Osiris. It's abandoned and unused now, but I will be waiting for you there."

The next thing he knew was that the woman was gone. A cold breeze blowing across his face, and he was absolutely alone in the crowded tavern. He looked to his half empty mug of ale, knowing that the only option was doing exactly as Desteria said. He did have to find his mother's killer, otherwise he would be put to death for murder. He should his head and finished off the mug, slamming it back down on the table. He stood up then and started to head out, making his way back to his fathers house, Desteria's voice echoing through his mind.

From the shadows of an alleyway, two ice blue eyes followed Sabazios as he walked back toward the house. A devious smile was playing across the creatures face. The creature crept low, leaping up to the rooftops to follow Sabazios along.

Sabazios had debated with himself the entire time home if he should listen to this woman or not. He hardly even knew her, why should he? But she was right at the same time. He had to clear his name of the murder of his mother. Who in the world would actually be able to kill their mother?! It was insane! And he had been blamed for it by his very own father.

By the time he returned home it was almost morning, his sisters were just now getting to bed, his father still sitting beside his mothers cold body. He snuck silently through the house, being sure not to disturb any of the slaves. He knew that if his father caught him back in the house he would be arrested and put to death for sure. He made his way to his sisters' room silently, closing the door behind him quietly. He cold eyes moved from his youngest sister to the older sister, both of them sleeping soundly in their beds. They had had a rough night, and they deserved a good rest. As he peered over his youngest sister, seeing wet stains on her cheeks. She had been cried herself to sleep, the loss of her mother, as well as her brother in a sense was too much. Had either of them seen who... or what it was that had killed their mother? He would soon find out. But first he had to find out how to get them out of here, and to the old temple. They would not come willingly, he knew that. They had probably been warned to stay away from him, that he was dangerous. A smile actually spread across his face as he looked around, trying to think how he could get them to go. He slunk about the room, looking for the club that they had always kept in their room for protection. He found it just to the side of the oldest sisters bed, gripping it tightly in his clenched fist. He pulled the sheet up over the oldest sister's head. "Only a quick bash to either of them! Then I will be sure they will stay asleep as I take them from the room. Yes... just a quick bash." He had obviously already begun to loose it as he held the club above the oldest sister's head, sending it crashing down on the young girls head. There was a cracking sound as the club hit her head, but nothing more. She remained as sound asleep as before. Sabazios tilted his head to the side, bringing the club up from his sister, a little bit of blood seeping through the cloth. He leaned in close... she was still breathing, he could hear it. He nodded a bit, making his way over to his youngest sister, raising the sheet up over her head as well. He had raised the club, just about to send it crashing down on her head as well when she woke, looking to the monster at the side of her bed with the club. The young girls eyes went wide as she parted her lips to let out a scream, but never had the chance, the club flying down at her, hitting her atop the head. There was a loud thud, a crack, and then the girl just collapsed back on the bed, Sabazios just standing there watching the young girl as blood began to pour from her head.

He stood there, frozen for a little bit. He didn't know if he had hit his sister too hard. But then... he was already framed for murder? Why care exactly? He shook it off. His sister was fine... he knew it. She just had a scratch on her head. He dropped the club at his side, scooping up both his sisters and dragging them to the door. He hadn't thought that carrying two girls would be this much trouble, but now it actually hit him. Still that didn't stop him from dragging the two girls out of the room and out of the house, the youngest one leaving a trail of blood throughout the house.

Sabazios reached the old abandonded temple that Desteria had told him to bring the girls too, laying both of them down in the middle of the main room. He didn't bother to check how either of them were doing. He knew they would wake up in time... they had to. He looked around for any sign of Desteria, but found none. The sun shined through the windows into the old temple, hitting him directly in the eyes. Sabazios sat down in a corner of the temple, just looking around, listening to the sounds of the busy city. He could hear the cries of murder out there... and now kidnapping. He knew that they would all be looking for him. He just hoped they wouldn't think to look in this old temple. He rested his head against the wall, closing his eyes as a pool of blood formed around the head of the youngest girl, the blood glinting in the sunlight.

A layer of flies had surrounded the young girls head by the time the older girl woke up, groggy, complaing her head hurt. She didn't know where she was, what was going on. She kept asking what that horrible stench was. It wasn't untill she saw the body of her sister that Sabazios woke up, to her screaming. The sun hadn't set just yet, and the blood was still glinting in the faint light. He scampered over to her, grabbing her from behind, wrapping his hand over her face. He spoke to her in a shakey, quiet voice.

"Shutup! Don't scream! Everything is alright Sekhmet. Just need to be quiet ok."

He tilted his head to the side, looking toward his sister in his arms, slowly releasing her a little bit. A fake, manicky smile slipped across his face, looking over toward his younger sister.

"Metztli is still asleep. See? Heh.."

As soon as he had loosened his grip on her, Sekhmet crawled across the floor quickly, tears in her eyes, taking her sisters head up in her lap after swatting the flies away. She looked to him with a bloodstained face, shaking her head at him.

"YOU IDIOT!! SHE ISN'T ASLEEP SHE'S DEAD!!! WHAT DID YOU DO?!?! WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?!?"

Sabazios just stared at her with a blank look. Dead? She couldn't be dead. He didn't do anything to her! Or his mother! He shook his head, standing up, peering down at her with somewhat wild eyes.

"No no no... She isn't dead! I didn't do anything to her! I didn't do anything to her or Mother! I'm just trying to clear my name of her murder! No... She isn't dead! METZTLI WAKE UP!!!"

He was just about to run to his sister's side and try to wake the youngest when a voice echoed through the temple, mocking Sabazios almost.

"Metztli wake up! Bah... Sabazios... come now. She isn't going to wake up. Please do not tell me that your dear sister Sekhmet is more intelligent then you."

Desteria emerged from the shadows, as if appearing out of nowhere, walking over toward the two and the corpse, shaking her head. She moved her gaze to Sabazios, her eyes seeming to have a look of condemnation.

"By the Gods Sabazios... How in the world are we supposed to get information from her now? The girl isn't just going to wake up and tell you. You've ruined your chance on going free you know... Even if we WERE able to prove you didn't kill your mother... now you have your sisters blood on your hands!"

The one living sister had scrambled off to a corner when she had seen Desteria, seen her pale skin, her glowing eyes. What had her brother gotten into?

"Sabazios... what is going on?! You aren't at fault for Mothers death. I explained it to Father... He has seach parties out looking for you!"

"Sabazios don't listen to her. Even if they aren't blaming you you are still now at fault for your Metztli's death now. And now you can't even try to weasle your way out of that because there is a witness..."

Sabazios hadn't taken his eyes off of Desteria, following hers when she looked to Sekhmet. He was a murderer now, even if he wasn't blamed for his mothers. He had now killed his sister, and there was a witness. She had seen Metztli's corpse laying on the floor in a puddle of blood. The blood all over his clothing and hands. His wide eyes looked back toward Desteria, shaking his head. Sekhmet was backing off toward the door, her face frozen in fear. Her brother had lost it, and she was afraid for her life. This woman was just feeding his madness like a fire. And she didn't like that look in Sabazios's eyes. When she thought she had a second she turned around and broke running, Desteria's voice whispering into Sabazios's ear.

"Sabazios... there's no way out of it now. They are going to get you, and sentence you to death. And that little girl is going to be the one to accuse you! Don't let her get away Sabazios! She's going to frame you for murder when it was just an accident!"

His face couldn't even express any other emotion than confusion and fear, her voice echoing through her mind like nails on a chalk board. Don't let her get away.... He shook his head, parting his lips to protest, but was cut off when she put her finger to his lip, looking him deep in the eye, her voice echoing even louder in his head. She was right, he couldn't let her get away. Sabazios turned from Desteria, sprinting out of the temple, tackling Sekhmet to the ground just a few feet from the grown over gates. He dug his knee into her back, holding her head sideways against the ground, peering back paranoidly, seeing Desteria standing at the doorway with an approving smirk on her face.

"Bring her back in...."

She then disappeared back into the temple, Sabazios pulling his sister up by her hair, clamping his hand over her mouth to keep her shut as he dragged her back into the temple.

The woman had stood within the temple as Sabazios drug the poor girl, kicking and screaming basically. Sabazios didn't know what the hell he was going to do with this his sister. What was the point now that he has apparently killed his youngest sister?!? As he entered the temple with Sekhmet, the door slammed shut behind him, both of them jumping a little bit and turning back. It was Desteria that was at the door, who had closed it shut. There was something about her eyes, something stirring deep within them when she looked at Sabazios and the girl. She walked toward Sabazios slowly, looking toward the girl as she squirmed, her gown flowing behind her.

"So... what are you going to do with her?"

She reached toward the girl, trailing a finger down her neck and along her collarbone, as if she were admiring her, a grin spreading across her face, a little glint of light reflecting off of her canines. Now normally, Sabazios would of thought that kinda weird... it would of freaked him out. But right now he kinda thought that he was more hallucinating alot of this stuff then it actually going on. Her voice echoed in his head, though her lips didn't move.

"There is no way that you would be able to let her go Sabazios... she would tell, and she would lead them right to you. What are you going to do?"

Sabazios watched the woman before him, shaking a bit, a few tears rolling down his cheek. He didn't know what he was going to do. Why did she keep asking?!? She was right... she couldn't let Sekhmet go... but what would he do?! He shook his head, looking toward his sister in his arms, tears rolling down her face, not even squirming much anymore, whimpering up at him. She was pleading with her eyes, but it only worsened Sabazios's torment. He shakily looked back up to Desteria, his grip tightening on his sister just a bit, now realizing.

"Des... Desteria.... what should I do?! I.. I... I... I killed her... I killed Metztli! She's dead!"

"Sabazios... don't tell me something I already know. Yes... she's dead. Yes... you killed her. Yes... you are a murderer. You've killed a member of your own family and are now holding one hostage. Your in a very bad place right now Sabazios... and if you continue to tighten your grip on your little sister there... she will be dead as well."

Sabazios jumped, looking toward his sister, seeing that his grip on her was tightening. He whimpered a little bit and just let her go, backing from them both shakily.

"N... no no no... I won't kill her! I need to find out who killed my mother. Yes... my mother."

Desteria shot a hand up, reaching for Sekhmet as she started to run away, gripping a chunk of her hair and pulling her back, looking toward her.

"Your not going anywhere... and Sabazios..."

She turned her gaze toward him, looking at him with glowing eyes.

"Didn't you ever think about this all logically? I mean... who was the one that came running to you in the first place saying your mother was attacked? Hmm...? Your sister... Metztli. Where was this little one?"

She shook Sekhmet a little bit, pulling her to her knees on the floor before her, tears rolling down the girls bloody face. She was crying out, pleading them to just let her go.

"What if she did it? What if she killed your mother? Is there any proof that she did not?"

Sabazios stared at his sister at Desteria's feet, shaking his head, the tears having seemed to have frozen in their spots. He slowly started to walk back toward them, whispers echoing in his head. She did it... She killed Mother. Metztli came running out just as she had heard Mother's cries... and where was she? She was in the room with Mother. Yes... that's it. It was her that did it. Sabazios shook his head, his entire frame shivering with cold sweat.

"Noo... No no no... Heh... Your a clever girl aren't you? But no... no you didn't kill her. Your weak... but where were you?"

The girl was crying, shaking her head, tears dripping down onto the floor.

"Please Sabazios!! I didn't do it! Please just let me go! Your crazy Sabazios! You need help!"

Desteria whipped the girls head to the side, tossing her off to the side, the girl catching herself with her hands, turning to her brother, still pleading. Sabazios just stared at her with wide eyes, Desteria slowly walking around him, running her hand over his shoulders, whispering into his ear.

"Come on Sabazios... She's lying. She is the only one that was home when your Mother was killed. You can't let her go... she's a murderer."

Sabazios shrugged her off his shoulder, staring down at his sister, shaking his head. Desteria's voice rung through his mind, whispering... She's a murderer.... His eye began to twitch as he clenched his fists, staring at the trembling girl that was his sister. A murderer... A murderer of her own mother. She saw the look in his eyes, that hint of madness. Sekhmet pushed herself to her feet, scurrying off toward the door, Sabazios letting out a loud growl. He lept after her, grabbing her legs just as she neared the door, both of them falling to the ground. A wicked smile played on Desteria's face as he scrambled up to his sister, taking her head in his hands, giving it a quick little twist, the crack echoing through the temple compound. Sabazios's breath stopped, staring down at his sister under him with wide eyes. What was he doing?! He had just killed both of his sisters. His eyes fluttered, blinking a few times, shaking his head.

"Sekhmet.. Oh my god... I'm so sorry Sekhmet... Wake up! Come on...!"

Low, melodic laughter began to rise from behind him, Desteria standing there watching him with an approving smile. She shook her head, watching him as he tried to wake his sister, shaking her like it would make her come back. A few tears came to her eyes as she watched him, Sabazios slowly turning around and looking at her.

"Oh... Sabazios... You are truly entertaining! Ask her to wake up when you just killed her. That's rich! I haven't had a good laugh like this in too long. Thank you!"

Sabazios just watched her as she laughed it up with a twitching eye, a fearful look over him. He shook his head, staring at her, slowly standing up and backing toward the doors.

"It's you... It's your fault! It's all your fault!"

He backed up into the doors, forgetting they were closed. He panicked, reaching toward the door and prying it open, never taking his eyes off of Desteria as she stood there laughing, walking toward him with outstretched arms as he scampered out, tripping as he ran out onto the dark street.

"Sabazios... where are you going to go?!?! There's no where for you to run!! Come back!!!"

She had slunk back into the old temple after Sabazios had run out, smirking at the whole situation. It had worked out just as she had hoped, so far. She looked down toward the bodies of the two girls, kicking them a little as she walked past them toward the altar. She entered a secret passage behind the altar, a bland look taking over her face as she walked through the passageway. He would be back, she was sure of it. Yet despite the entire course of events, she still didn't feel quite herself. She reached a little room at the end of the passageway, a single highly ornate bed situated in the corner of the room, a carved marble desk in another. She made her way toward the desk, taking ahold of the quill that was set there, and got to writing profusely.

I don't quite understand myself. Normally something like this would cheer me up in a matter of seconds, yet it doesn't. Sure it lightens the moment, but seconds later I am back to this repetitive sadness. It was never like this when they were all around. Sure we fought alot, but that was only because I was spoiled. And yes, I know I was. Now all of a sudden I have been thrust into a solitary life on my own, and I'm already bored with it.

Sabazios is quite interesting though. There seems to be depth to him when he is of sound mind. However I don't think he will ever be of completely sound mind ever again. What a shame. Well not really. Perhaps he would make a good companion if I can ever get my hands on him once more. Yet, at the same time, I'm not sure I want to. Aside from being interesting, he can get annoying very quickly. Ahh! What does it matter? If he gets too annoying, simple. I'll kill him.

Perhaps travel. That could be of some good. Yes... I have been in Rome for my entire existence. At least that I remember. I wish to get out and see more. Not just where we traveled when I was with Father. I would have the opportunity to choose my own path now. It will be much more fun... and more dangerous. Sounds like a grand idea....
