-Lycanthropes (Lycans)-
Lycanthropes in TFW: Throughout the world of
roleplay, different games, there are numerous forms that a Lycanthrope can
take, but in TFW the only one that they can take is a WereWolf. Though you
may have an idea as to what a lycanthrope is from various movies, please
follow our guidelines in TFW while playing and creating them.
Werewolves are surpernatural creatures that can take two forms
other than that of a human: a lupine (natural looking wolf) or a Werewolf.
In human form, they look exactly as a human would, there are no telltale
signs of this being having the ability to the NORMAL senses, though
supernatural creatures can tell the difference through the smell of their
pheromones. In lupine form, the Lycan are a bit larger than normal wolves,
standing about a head taller than some of the largest documented wolves
throughout history. In Werewolf form, the Lycan gains a quarter of their
body mass and height. This ShapeShifting ability comes naturally to them
either after they are created or born.
Werewolves have two other
supernatural abilities: supernatural speed and strength. This is not to
say that the Lycans cannot gain powers gained by killing a Marakine Demon,
but Lycans are not able to gain more than one power, without going
completely insane, or dying a heinous death.
Werewolves age until
about the age of 18 - 21 if they are born and are considered immortal, for
it takes about 100 years to age a year naturally. They do retain the power
of procreation, though only with another Lycan or Human. If it is with a
human, then there if a 50 percent chance that the child will be Lycan and
a 50 percent chance that the child will be human. There are no other
possibilities.
Though Lycans are considered immortal they can be
killed. They are opposite equals to vampires, but that isn ot to say that
a human cannot kill them. The ways to kill a Lycan: decapitation or
burning.
Creating other Lycan can only happen through a bite or a
deep scratch. There must be the passing of either saliva or blood into the
victim's body to infect them. Only
humans can truly become Lycans through this method, which excludes Demons,
Fallen Angels, and Vampires. Lycanthropes are actually quite picky about
who they create to be amongst their ranks. They do not just go around
infecting people to create hordes of them. They tend to look for those
that are linked with nature, as they have come to learn their purpose in life.
History: The mythology behind the creation of
the werewolf comes to TFW from Greek/Roman mythology.
"... Lycaon
was the son
of Pelasgus and Meliboea, father of Oenotrus and the mythical first king
of Arcadia. He was the father of Callisto and, according to some, he
raised her son Arcas, who was fathered by Zeus. One day, Lycaon and his fifty impious
sons entertained Zeus on the day of sacrifice and set before him a
dish of meat. The dish was actually the flesh of Zeus and Callisto's son, Arcus.
The god pushed away the dish in dis-gust and turned the king and his sons
into wolves. Legend now tells us that Lycaon and his sons are cursed to
turn into wolves at each annual sacrifice to Zeus (the full moon), and suffer
an insatiable craving for human flesh."
Possible Vampiric Links: The Vampires and Werewolfs of TFW have never gotten along. Many Vampiric
families have tended to see werewolfs as more wild and primitive than they
are. In this sense, vampires have historically been known to be prejudice
against werewolfs. Some families have even tried to control the werewolf
population. No Vampiric family truly understands the complex nature of the
werewolf line and lineage.
Of the Vampiric families, the Mazonn
are the most prominent that give the werewolfs the respect they deserve.
The Marileus are the second that are tolerant and well meaning for
Lycanthropes that cross their paths.
But of the Six Vampiric Families, the Authurians are the ones the Lycanthropes
hate the most. This is not only because of their cruelty to Lycanthropes, but
cruelty towards humanity.
Ability to control their change
: This comes with
age. While the young Lycanthropes are effected by the moon's lunar cycle, the
three days of the full moon, they have little control over their Werewolf
form. While in this shifted Werewolf form, the craving for human flesh is uncontrollable. It
is only when the Lycanthrope mind reaches adulthood that they can truly understand the reasoning
of the shift and begin to control their actions while in their lupine form. It
is after a minimum of 200 years of this type of understanding
that the Lycanthrope starts to become less swayed by the lunar cycles and the curse. But
again, for this to occur, the werewolf has been around a minimum of 2 and a half
centuries and it takes a while to master this ability.
Dietary Needs: Lycanthropes can eat anything a
normal human can. They do prefer their meat raw and not burnt. They have
their preferences as well, just like humans. They are not required to
drink blood like their Vampiric counterparts, but you may find that a
Lycanthrope has a much heartier appetite than a normal human. However, beginning around
the full moon, Lycans begin to have an insatiable craving for human flesh.
Once the shift begins, that craving is unstoppable
. It is not uncommon for a Werewolf
to rip their victim to shreds while satisfying the need for human
flesh. In fact, is uncommong for a Werewolf not to.
Quick Notes:
Lycanthrope abilities:
Shapeshifting, Supernatural Strength, Supernatural Speed
To kill a Lycanthrope:
Decapitation or Burning to death
Creation: Bite or Scratch, full
effect seen at next full moon
Birth: Can only procreate with
other Lycanthropes or Humans (see above for percentages on what is created). The
gestational period for a fetal Lycanthrope is the same as humans.
Abilities - Control of Beast:
This comes with age. It takes a while to control the beast that is within them.
See the section about their learning.
Abilities - other powers: The
Lycanthropes can gain ONE ability from killing a Marakine. If more than one is
gained, this will most likely end in self-destruction, or utter insanity.
