History:
Indica's father
left to fight when she was only six months old, to never return to the beautiful
Empire of Rome. This left her mother to raise three children on her own, working
in the marketplace day to day to make ends meat, and failing in the harshness of
winter. A peasant, through and through, when Indica was seven years old, her
eldest sibling, Marius, turned thirteen, and their mother sent him to work.
Marius worked in the marketplace with his mother for a brief time before Salvia
was old enough to take his place, leaving the nine-year-old Indica to roam
freely. Marius took a job in the Roman Military, and has been working his way up
in rank, constantly sending his earnings back to his mother to support his two
younger sisters.
On Indica's thirteenth birthday, she began to see things that others could not,
things that would happen very soon after she had seen them. Things that no one
should have known about. A man who bumped into her in the marketplace gave her
visions of a wedding, and the groom was laying dead on the altar. Two days
later, at his daughter's wedding, her fiancé dropped dead at the altar of what
an investigation revealed to be a poison of some sort. A woman had lost her
daughter somewhere outside of the city, and when she'd stopped and taken
Indica's hand, Indica saw her daughter wandering back towards the city in the
twilight of dusk.
Only when she told her mother of such strange things did she make any progress
in beginning to understand it. A witch passing through town had told her she had
the gift of an Oracle, the gift to see into the future at unpredictable
intervals. This meant that it could be a day, or a week before her visions came
to be. Five years would pass, giving her the time to better understand her
'gift', realizing that it could be used only through the direct touch of skin on
skin, and that somehow, cloth prevented the ability from being used, even when
tried.
Shortly after her eighteenth birthday, Hope began to catch glimpses and wisps of
thoughts from others around her. Mostly it happened with Telekinetic (those
with the ability of telekinesis). Deeply concerned about her daughters
increasing abilities, Jaqueline consulted an academic scholar who specialized in
the supernatural and unusual. After a few short tests, it was determined that
Hope had acquired the gift of telekinesis. Perhaps it was the growing of age,
perhaps it was something mystical and unknown, but in either case, she began to
see into the minds of others. Some were easier than others, some were
impossible, and still others she could read like a book. Every thought, every
notion that passed through their minds became her own thoughts, her own notions.
Shortly after her twenty-first birthday, her mother passed away, and Salvia
moved into the city to find herself a husband. Marius was busy with the
military, still sending both of his sisters every cent he could spare, providing
them both with enough money to make it from one day to the next. With nothing
left to hold her within the grasp of the Roman Empire, she set out to explore
the world, finding more and more just how rare her gifts were, and just how
valuable some might believe them to be. Meeting with the few others who shared
her gift has taught her the secrets to protecting herself from the greed of
others, to keeping her gifts a secret.
