About & History:
Warrior. Mercenary. Assassin. Rebel. Warlord. Radu has been called many things,
but never has he been labeled a compassionate man. Radu Haji is as far from
‘compassionate’ as one can possibly be, but this by no means exempts him from
the rewards of obedience. He will, when the need warrants, hold his tongue, lay
down his sword, and even bow to a person of high stature. However, in these
times, you can be sure he is calculating his future objectives. He is never
quick to break the arm of a brazen thief, cut out the tongue of one who defies
him, or even take off the head of one that speaks their mind a little too much
for his tastes. He holds back in most situations because he knows it is better
to take time in every affair, to learn more about it, than to kill it and learn
nothing at all. Everything Radu does, he does with a purpose.
Radu lives the hard road, preferring the rugged outcast, as opposed to the high
life of the affluent and elegant. People like that, he believes, are too busy
with the ‘finer things in life’ to ‘have much going on upstairs’, if you catch
the meaning. In his many days, and in the way he chooses to exist in them, Radu
Haji has far surpassed the average intelligent man. When he looks at a beggar,
he sees someone who is more than willing to put themselves in harm’s way for a
gold coin, so Radu does not have to do it. When he is seduced, he sees more than
a whore. He sees a desperate woman that can be easily swayed into doing more
than pleasuring him. And women, he says, are the best at obtaining information
even from their foes. He can find a use for just about anyone. And not even
children are safe from his manipulative tactics.
Radu watches and listens to everything and everyone around him. If there are
words being spoken, his ears are always open to them, even when the conversation
might seem to others, trivial. He leaves no stone unturned, and he is excellent
at ‘figuring people out’ for who they truly are. This learned talent has served
him well over the years. He knows more about people than one might ever fathom,
even people he does not know personally. He makes it a point to study even the
way one moves, how they smell, which facial expressions a person might display
more than others, because much is seen in perpetual actions that normally go
unnoticed. There is little that one can hide from the likes of Radu, and even if
he may not know precisely the secrets they harbor, you can be sure he will come
closer to figuring them out, than most anyone you meet.
Radu claims to have no family
at all, not even a child that carries his blood. And he doesn’t like it much
when others pry in his life, or in his present affairs. He is not above
socialization—he rather likes it—but he also likes to be left alone. He works
alone. He often sleeps alone. He travels alone, and he plots alone. He strongly
believes that to gain all that one desires, is to do it by one’s self so that it
can be done properly. ‘Trust’ is not a word that exists in his vocabulary. He
says that everyone is capable of betrayal and lies, and he cannot risk…whatever
it is that he is hiding. Radu does not stay in one place, ever. He often leaves
his current location to seek alternate, more exotic surroundings, including seeking out the more remote parts of the Marakai, where few venture.
Radu seems to know more about the Marakain landscape than most others. In fact, he been rumored to have traveled to areas that have not yet even been mapped.
He is not too private of a person to disclose his reasons though;
telling those who ask it is because the remote places of the Marakai intrigues him. This, they say,
is where Radu gained two of his powers: camouflaging and telekinesis. He carries
around his neck a braided necklace with two Marakine teeth dangling from it. His
other ability, clairvoyance, he claims to have been given by one named ‘Bayloc’.
Simply alleging to know the great Sorcerer, Bayloc, sometimes puts him in
danger, and other times makes him the envy of others. He occasionally uses his
alleged association with the great Bayloc, to his advantage. And it is believed
he has, in fact, proven his claim and taken some to Bayloc to see for
themselves.
Despite first impressions, Radu has more likes than dislikes. He may be savage
and cruel, scheming and often heartless, but when it comes to blonde-haired
women and the smoking of a pipe, he is in absolute heaven. But do not let his
fascination with blondes lead you astray. Like any other, he does not trust
them. He will take one to bed quick, but he will also afterwards tell her where
the door of his tent is. He believes that women are even more scheming than he
is, so for one to fool him or lead him through deceptive walls, it would take
much more than beauty, intelligence and a coy smile. And his dislikes, hmmm, how
can one state this without offending the reader? There is no way—he hates women
with dark hair, so much so that he will set his patient personality aside just
to take one out. They are like thorns in his side, though he will not say why,
and to keep from being hunted by every man in the world that happens to like
women with dark hair, he tries to stay as far away from the devil’s as he
possibly can.
Radu is reluctant, and often refuses to give an oath to any kingdoms. He does at times work for
individuals within certain kingdoms, but not to one of them is he loyal. Sure,
if employed, he does his job to the best of his ability and never betrays those
who pay his wage. He has carried out many assassination jobs and has even dipped
his hands in the arts of espionage. But most of all, his area of expertise is in
that of training men and even women, to wield a sword.
But the most extraordinary thing about Radu is that even though he appears
human, he is an Ancient Demon of the Underworld, an Elder of the Urandrum. His
human form is flawlessly concealed to most beings, and it is merely a façade.
Almost in sequence with the quarter moon, Radu becomes someone so unlike
himself. It begins with the irritable mood swings and then goes into outright
rage. Anyone in his path is unsafe from his course of destruction. This happens
in the onset of his transformation back into a Urandrum demon. To keep his
identity a secret, he uses his teleporting ability to go into hiding, far away
from life on the outside, in either dimension. (To understand more about the
