Head of the Marileus Family

As a human, Lucian-Anir Marileus lived to be thirty-eight before he was made a vampire in AD 58, Embraced by the First of the Marileus bloodline, Julia Marileus. She claimed to have loved Lucian when he was human, and her greed caused her to Embrace him against his will. Lucian loathed Julia for what she had done, and years later, he left her. She no longer had the strength to keep him under her heel, for he became even more powerful than she was. He is a Roman, born and raised in Rome in his human and Undead life, until he left Rome to join the scholars and artists of his bloodline in a new life away from the disease of their Sire. They all hated Julia, but Lucian hated her more than any of them. Lucian's reasoning for his hatred for Julia is known by very few: a woman, Raziya Authurian. His love for her was much greater than his love ever had been for Julia, making Julia demand her death, before he left her side in Babylon. Jealousy is an evil thing...

The family found a home somewhere on a desolate and secret island, far away from Rome where they were certain they could be left in peace to study the world, and grow with it in the eternal years ahead of them. Lucian has reveled in this tranquil place for over two hundred years. He became an artist, a poet and a musician, loving most of all the violin, and charcoal sketches of mountains and solitary trees. He was always quite the ‘ladies man’, having been the envy of many men and vampires who could never quite match his charm and his skill for enchanting women with little effort. Though charming women was never something he did deliberately, it just seemed to come natural to his personality.

Like many of the Marileus bloodline, Lucian is calm and laid back. Socializing with the most elite of people, he absolutely loves and rarely does he pass on an invitation to join a social gathering where the wine is vintage and the donors are pure. But the one thing he does not like is ‘change’. Whether it is the scenery he is used to, or the world as the years pass by him. Now that the world has been turned upside-down by the Marakai, he too in a way has been turned upside-down. On the outside, Lucian usually comes off as his normal self, but deep within him, he is restless. He despises those of the Marakian Empire and all who came over with them from the Marakian Dimension. Long have his years been easy-going, and not too difficult to manage, but now, everything is different. He tries to adjust, but more everyday his will is broken.

Lucian is natural telepath, and has the abilities of hypnosis, mind-reading, mind control, memory manipulation, levitation, invisibility, inheriting and what Vampires call the ‘cloud gift’, where he can take to the air and travel long distances. And like many vampires, he is naturally too quick for the human eye. Hardly ever does he display his abilities in public unless he has to, he would rather blend with humans when mingling with them. He is not the leader of his House, but he could have been. His Marileus kin voted Lucian as their leader, but he declined. It is not in his nature to lead anyone, and so then the second favorite came to take the Seat. His name: Salvatore Marileus. Lucian and Salvatore did not get along when they first met—clashing personalities—but now they are like brothers. It took Lucian saving Salvatore’s life when imprisoned in an Authurian ‘sun cage’, to bring them together as friend’s. The House of Salvatore hate the Authurian’s as much as any other who hate them. In time, they may clash on the battlefield.

Addendum as of 778AD - 5 years after the opening of the Marakai:

Four years ago, Lucian met another human female that caught his attention, instead of him catching hers. She was unique in his eyes, but he didn't know how unique until he saved her from a fate that would not have been a pleasant one: An Authurian meal or slave. He came to find that she was a Reborn: meaning, she most likely had ties to the Marakai... somehow. He took her back to the Island and began working with her, building her self-confidence, making her aware of the way things really were in the world. All the while, Lucian's heart began to open to her. Though it hasn't been complete as it had been with one other, it is comparable to his openness with his daughter Alexandria. Unfortunately the opening of the Marakai and the minions from it have halted much of the training he was beginning with her, to open her mind to the past life to get answers to a great many things about her personality quirks: fears, apprehensions, etc.

It was upon the eve after the Kindred/Vampiric Underground had called him to represent them to Caesar: Gaius Xerxes; that Lucian's unlife and order of priorities would change. It is well known and most prophetic of the Mazonn, whom he had once held good associations with had always, always stated: There is dishonor in ~all~ families. That night Lucian found this to be a hard lesson.

He and Salvatore had done their best to drive out the followers of Julia. They did not necessarily kill them, but if they could not be reformed to the new peaceful ways, they would be on a hunted list. Unfortunately, not all on this list had been found. Antoinette d'Barbaraque was the one who had come back to haunt them. She had made her own ties to the demons attempting to take over the full Frankish Empire, having slowly built back up the old Gaulian Empire. Her rewards were to be: bring down the Marileus heirarchy now in place - Salvatore's and Lucian's lives to end at her hand; find Julia's 'resting place' and kill her; and to become the 'Goddess' of the Marileus. Unfortunately she was not as successful as she wanted. She ended up dead, by Lucian's hand with Salvatore's sword, right after her childe, along with a young companion from the Mazonn, met with Lucian.

Though Salvatore still lives, he is unable at present to lead the Marileus, so he passed his sword off to Lucian and made him promise to lead the battle against the Marileus enemies, but he did not name any particular family, just the demons. Lucian gave his promise. The stoic, aloof Lucian was now filled with anger. His impatience may not be able to be held back any longer, but he still attempts to. The time for clashing swords and fangs is coming, and Lucian, now leading the Marileus, is actually more than ready. His qualms about 'leading' are a thing of the past, at least for the time being...
