To explain simply, Michael judged, Gabriel awarded mercy, and Kyriel delivered sentence. A beautiful archangel of light and strength, Kyriel was the sword of God since the beginning of creation. As time progressed, however, Kyriel began to question the judgment of Michael who claimed he only followed the will of God. Furthermore, Kyriel questioned the mercy of Gabriel, who claimed only the love of God. More frequently, the executioner did not trust the decisions of his fellow archangels, believing mercy should be granted to one sinful man while his sword should find the neck of another. Finally, convinced they were tainted, he rejected Michael, Gabriel, and threw down his sword before the full 9 courts of angels. His falling came from these doubts: failing to trust and seek the will of God.

The Sword-Arm of God does not remember his previous life, but he does carry the guilt of betraying his Lord. He does not remember his beautiful self, but instead sees the reflection of an angel cast out of heaven. He often hides his black feathers in shame while not understanding the reason. His hair is dark and his skin pale with an unworldly glow. Although at home in Marakai, his corporeal appearance is more defined on Earth.

Kyriel is still an executioner, though no longer for God. He is the sword-arm of the Illimar, one of 13 fallen angels responsible for the destruction of Archonic tribes. When cast from heaven, so also was his sword, his method of execution. The blade is made from an alloy of steel, not yet invented by the men of Earth. For an angel, who saw the original formation of all earthly elements, the process was easy to comprehend. Eternally sharp, the blade will never need to taste oil, yet another concept from an angelic mind. The tang is perfectly balanced, the grip hand and a half, double-edged, and forty-eight inches in length from hand-guard to end. The wooden hilt comes from a tree not yet discovered by mankind, is wrapped in oiled leather, and coiled with black-silken cording. Most spectacular, a carved figure of infinite depth and intricacy is laid onto a stone of onyx embedded in the pommel.

He did not join the Illimar when he fell, he became one of their number, but it is the symbol that gives Kyriel purpose. All of the Illimar have examined it but none know the meaning beyond speculation, but Kyriel will not allow the eyes of another to touch the figure. Four Star of David’s are overlaid upon each other, and at the tip of each is a different glyph. Kyriel has never seen a copy of these symbols but relates them to the meaning of the Star of David. He believes the stars represent the realms of God and the markings as a remnant of his former life. He does not actively search for any interpretation as he has received no motivation to do so. Instead, he keeps open eyes and ears.

His purpose: obey the will of Illimar and deliver justice. The former sword-arm of God is now the sword-arm of the Illimar. He kills those who have been marked for death with the sword that is an extension of his soul. He delivers warnings with his very presence. He is dangerous to all enemies of the Illimar, demon and fallen angel alike.
