She
remembers the night that they came, the darkness upon wings. It was a night of
death. Her village reeked of burning flesh, the sorrows of those around her, the
death of her friends and family. No one knows true loneliness like an
empathetic. How she survived, when so many did not, is a mystery that not even
she can answer. She has little skill with the weapons of men. She is a healer, a
gentle person. Besides the dagger she promised her father she would keep with
her, she knew nothing of the ways of steel.
But it does not change her fate, the little that she knows of battle. Still, the
demon was slain, her death avoided, the power so foreign to her invading her
body, her mind. She would learn later what they were called, the demon that she
killed. It was a carrier demon, a Marakine. His telepathy is now her’s, giving
her a closer bond with those she chooses to become close to.
She fled her little village, to search the lands for anyone left alive. Cyra had
never before known life without the guidance of a male. She was the only girl of
a family of four: her mother died with the birth of her younger brother. It was
alien to her, not to have the strong hand of a male to lead her through life.
So, it was expected that she so devoted herself to the regiment of men that
found her. She took the time to help their wounded, for healing was something
that came natural to this girl. She spent her twenty-first birthday searching
what had once been a great town for survivors.
Finally they found hope: Constantinople. There, the general her father had told
her stories about was leading their people. There was hope once again, or at
least for this young girl there was. She dedicated herself to helping who she
could. The sadness of their people was enough to drive her mad.
She is unique. Through harshness she has kept her gentle nature. With the
combine gifts of healing, empathy and telepathy, she has done her best to play
an important role in the survival of her country, her empire. She has yet to
meet the man that she holds in such high esteem, this General Cosmas. But her
faithfulness to her people gives the men hope, so she continues to strive for
life, when only death surrounds them.
